Computer Build #1 | Gaming Rig - Quad Core, 2GB Memory, 2 x 8800GT’s
I’ve done a lot of reviews this week so I thought I’d end the working week with a computer build, I’ve had quite a Gaming themed week this week so why not start by showing you a great gaming rig for just under $1900. As the Rig is for gamers I’ve also included a great Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse these aren’t necessary for the gaming experience but they do enhance it some what. But if you already have these and don’t want to buy new ones the Rig comes in at under $1400
This Rig is at the high end of the gaming spectrum, yes you could spend more but you don’t get much more benefit out of it. Our first Rig should be able to play Crysis smoothly on High settings, what more would you like out of a Gaming Rig?
I havn’t worked out the best format to deliver the build to you yet, but this is the best way I can think of right now. I’ve linked to each of the products so you buy the correct version. Send me a message via the Contact form on the about page if you want any more information or have thought of a better way to deliver our builds and we’ll consider it for the next one.
Component List
- MotherBoard
Asus P5N-E SLI Quad-Core nForce650i SLI ATX Motherboard
Great motherboard I’ve used it on a couple of my Rigs now, its a nice sturdy board to build a solid system on. - Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775
I decided on the Quad Core because paying this amount of money you’ll want an upgradeable system. - Memory
OCZ 2 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2 Dual Channel
You could go for Memory with 1066MHz but for the price difference you dont get much more performance out of them. - Graphics Card
2 x XFX PVT88PYDD4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB XXX 670Mhz PCI Express x16 SLI Ready Video Card
Buying 2 will push framerates up a further 25% the 9800’s are coming out soon so I would wait for the price to fall before purchasing - Sound Card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series
Sound Cards are often over looked in Rig Build lists, but I think they are extremely important especially for gaming where you need to be able to hear your enemy approaching. The Fata1ity cards are very high quality and I use them in virtually all of my Rigs - Chassis
Cooler Master
Great Case for cooling as you can add up to 7 fans, its quite large though so make sure you’ve got somewhere to put it. - Power Supply
650W ATX12V V2.2 + EPS12V Psu Blue Led Modular Cableng High Eff
650W should be more than enough to run this system - DVD Drive
Sony Internal ATAPI - Black
Any old DVD drive would do as they don’t really effect gaming much, I’ve always liked sony for their DVD drives though. - Monitor
HP W2408H 24″ Widescreen LCD Monitor
I’ve reviewed this before (here) so I wont say much about it other than its a best seller on Amazon. - Mouse
Logitech NEW G5 Laser Mouse
Great gaming Mouse, check out our review here - Keyboard
Microsoft Natural Ergo Keyboard 4000
Not my personal choice for a Keyboad but great value for money

The Asus P5Q-E Intel LGA775 Platform Motherboard are available and was wondering if this series is dependable and good quality. Its obviously not a quad but i feel core2 would be fast enough (since i’m not an extreme gamer) supposedly the board sports a bus speed of 1200mhz.
